Narok

The County of Narok which according to the government census report of 2009 was occupied by 850,920 lives, lies along the Great Rift Valley in Kenya and covers an expansive area of 17,944 sq km. Its name is derived from Enkare Narok, the river which flows through Narok Town. The town serves as seat of Narok County government and is the last major stop-over when journeying from Nairobi to Maasai Mara Game Reserve and Keekorok Lodge by road. This town is an important center of business for various consumer services and financial activities. Since the construction of the Road from Mai Mahiu to Kaplong through Bomet, Narok town has become a popular stop over town for travelers heading to Kisii, Migori and Northern Tanzania through Isebania Boarder.

Narok County receives average annual rainfall of between 500mm and 1,800mm, while its temperature range is between 12°C and 28°C. Seven sub-counties constitute it, namely Narok North, Narok South, Narok West, Narok East, Kilgoris and Emurua Dikirr. The County has been marked by a UN report as being among the pivotal counties in achieving the economic pillar of Kenya Vision 2030. The four main drivers of Narok economy are tourism, crop farming, livestock farming and mining.
